You already know that I am a fan of self-adhesive vinyl and that I have used it to decorate doors (wardrobe doors), furniture (bedside table) and even borders (kitchen border), but I also like to experiment with other types of vinyl such as magnetic vinyl or textile vinyl, with which I have lately customized several cushions and I have been so satisfied with the result that I am looking forward to decorate with textile vinyl a lot of other things (clothes, upholstery fabric, fabric boxes, etc.).
I have told you once that it happens to me quite frequently that I do not find what I am looking for or that when I find it something fails (size, price, color…). A few months ago I was looking at cushions for the sofas in the living room and I found myself with the same problem, so after searching and considering different options I decided to buy some basic cushions and customize them with textile vinyl.
The textile vinyl can be applied on cotton, polyester and their blendsIn fact, it is very common to use it to decorate t-shirts, sweatshirts or cloth bags. Its application is very simple and can be done at home with a domestic iron and easily available materials. In the next post I will publish a step by step with images but first I prefer that you see the results you can get to whet your appetite.
The appearance of textile vinyl is very similar to matte self-adhesive vinyl. On one of its sides it has a shiny transparent sheet to which heat must be applied and on the other there is the color that will be adhered to the fabric.
As always in this type of customizations, if we want good finishes and that are also durable, we must use quality materials. To personalize these cushions I have used textile vinyl from Vinilosametros.com, it has adhered perfectly to the fabric, the finish seemed printed from how well it has turned out and it has also resisted the washing machine without problems.
The price of textile vinyl is 9 euros per meter (plus VAT) but the great advantage is that with one meter you can decorate several cushions. In each cushion I will indicate the material that I have used and the proportional cost so that you can see that customizing a cushion with a design to your liking can be low cost.
Decorate a cushion with a geometric print with textile vinyl
I like geometric patterned cushions but the ones I saw in stores were either expensive or not the color I wanted. In the end, what I did was buy some basic cushions for 6 euros (including the filling) and brown textile vinyl.
In the following image you can see what the cushion was like before decorating it with the textile vinyl and how it turned out afterwards, often a change, right?
To make this geometric design I have used 30 centimeters of brown textile vinyl (the rolls are 50 cm wide), that is, the proportional cost has been 3.30 euros (VAT included). If I also take into account the price of the cushion, the final cost does not reach 10 euros, when normally this type of cushion does not drop below 20 or 25 euros (not including the filling).

Decorate a cushion with a chevron print with textile vinyl of different colors
The chevron or zig zag print is another of my favorites and if it also combines several colors the result is very decorative, in fact this type of print is characteristic of the Italian brand Missoni, in its home line we can find similar cushions at a price of 150 or 200 euros.
In the following image you can see how by combining vinyls of different colors we can totally transform a very bland cushion.
To make this design I have used 15 centimeters of brown textile vinyl, 15 cm beige and 15 orange, that is, the proportional cost has been about 5 euros (VAT included) and if we add the cushion, the final cost is 11 euros. It will not be like Misonni’s but it is clear that for much less money we can achieve a similar result.

As I told you at the beginning, these cushions were for the sofa, you only have to see the before and after with the neutral cushions and with the ones I have personalized with textile vinyl to see the change.
Decorate a chic cushion with a message with textile vinyl
For the end I have left the customization that I liked the most of all. A few days ago I found a design by Audrey Herpburn that I loved, since it was a vertical design I thought it would look good on a cushion with an inspiring phrase next to it.
The cushion is made of canvas fabric and it cost me 3.60 euros with the filling included (in the lower left corner it still has the price). For the phrase I chose a quote from Coco Chanel: «Fashion goes out of style, but style never«.
The final result is a timeless and very chic cushion, as you can see in the following image:
To make this design I have used 25 centimeters of black textile vinyl, with a proportional cost of 2.8 euros (VAT included) and if we add the cushion, the final cost is 6.4 euros. Buying a personalized cushion and your taste for that price is practically impossible if you do not do it yourself.
