Now in August you will either be on vacation or dreaming about them and if you also love to travel like I do, you will surely look for inspiration in every place you visit. In Westwing’s digital magazine they offer us an interesting journey through the decoration styles of different cities such as Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Moscow, Amsterdam, Milan, Warsaw and Rio de Janeiro. Of the houses that are visited, my favorite is an attic in Milan where you can find very good DIY decoration ideas Do you want to discover them with me?
I have very fond memories of the trip to Milan that I made a few years ago. Milan may not be one of the most beautiful cities in Italy but it has something that fascinates me: the fusion between vintage and the purest Italian design. This combination gives rise to creative and very inspiring spaces, such as the penthouse of Margot Zanni, Style Director of Westwing Italia, where we can also find interesting DIY decoration ideas.
The living room of this penthouse is very bright as it has a large window that opens onto a terrace with magnificent views. It gives the feeling of being in a small oasis in the middle of the city.
The luminosity of the living room is intensified thanks to the white color chosen for walls, upholstery and part of the furniture, even so the whole is very colorful due to one of the great passions of the owner: art and cinema, which is reflected in a wide collection of books and magazines.
The books are organized in a custom-made bookcase but they are also stacked on different areas of the living room as part of the decoration, providing that personal and unique touch to the home.
DIY decoration ideas: when you don’t have enough space organize your collection of books by integrating them into the decorationfor this you can stack them building different geometric shapes for example.
Margot has been able to take advantage of her collection of magazines by transforming them into original poufs, as can be seen in the following image:
The owner likes to travel and bring souvenirs from the places she visits, to integrate them into the decoration she adds a personal touch, such as using a light bulb as the lid of a glass container.
He has also created a kind of circus tent from which a tiger stands out with photocopies of old documents that he dyed with infusions and tea to give it an aged appearance.
On the other hand, the natural oak wood of the bookcase, stairs and floor combines both with the light tones of the house and with the dark tones of the dining room table, a piece of walnut wood from the sixties that Margot decided not to restore so that it retains all its history and vintage charm.
For the kitchen, practical and functional white lacquered wood furniture has been chosen that contrasts with the steel countertop.
Grappa (Italian liquor) bottles of different sizes have been placed as a decoration, some of these bottles have been recycled as glasses by cutting them in half and decorating them.
As in the living room, the light from the large window floods the Provencal-style bedroom, making the most of it by not placing any type of curtain or blind that could restrict its entry.
DIY inspiration is provided by both the set of decorated slats in different colours, and the original “Lipsticks” model mirror by Seletti that can be seen behind the vintage-style wooden floor lamp.
