Shoe storage solutions

find the perfect storage solution for shoes It is not an easy task, much less when one of your passions is shoes and you can count them by dozens. Shoes are not like clothes, if you keep them all piled up in a big box or in a trunk, it is more likely that they will end up deformed and dirty. Murphy’s Universal Footwear Law it says you’ll always want the lowest pair, so you’ll have to pull out a bunch of shoes to get to them.
It is also not practical to have it spread over all the closets and spend hours searching to get the pair you want to wear (unless you have a memory of an elephant). Ideally, the shoes should be at the entrance to the house since, normally, it is the last thing we put on before leaving and the first thing we take off when we arrive.

There are many solutions for store shoes in the hall but they have the drawback that this type of furniture does not usually have a large capacity. In addition, in many homes the hall is non-existent or is an extension of the corridor.
In Ikea, for example, we can find several types of shoe racks and furniture to place shoes in the hall, such as the HEMNES model in which you can store 8 pairs of shoes:

Or the TRONES boxes in which you can store two pairs of shoes in each box:

We also have shoe benches and drawers:

As I have already mentioned, the main drawback of this solution is that it only works for a limited number of pairs. In addition, although the shoe benches look good in the photo, in practice it is not aesthetic to find a “procession” of shoes as soon as you open the door of the house.
To store a considerable number of shoes it seems that we have to resort to large shoe racks like the one in the following photo:

But as practical as they may seem, they really aren’t. First because, even if you have everything in sight, you need a big space that on many occasions you do not have and secondly because the soles of the shoes are dirty and end up staining the shelves.

There are also the creative solutions for storing footwear.
In recycled wooden boxes but… how many holes will we have to make in the wall for 30 pairs or more?

inside pipes although we continue to run into the problem that the shoes would be visible, it is still the creative solution that I find most practical of all.

My shoe storage solution

I am lucky to have a large closet in the hall where I can store shoes as well as coats and jackets. Still it took me a long time to find one Efficient way to organize footwear of my partner and mine since we both have a good repertoire (especially me, why should I lie to you!).
For this we have used a bookcase with shelves It measures 195 cm high, by 80 cm wide and 36 cm deep. At the top are placed boxes suitable for men’s shoes (larger) and then others adapted to women’s shoes. In this way I have managed to take advantage of the width of the bookcase to fit the maximum number of pairs per row.
I like it store shoes in boxes and that they are all the same size. In this way, if I choose one that is below the others, the upper ones occupy the empty space without anything collapsing, everything goes down as if it were a row of the Tetris.
Boxes for men’s shoes have transparent windows so you can see the shoes inside. In the case of the boxes for women’s shoes I have printed images of shoes on stickers to be able to locate them without having to open the box.
In short, as you can see, in a relatively small space it has been possible to store 39 pairs of shoes and even more could be stored since a couple of shelves have been used to store bags and other types of objects.
