I will not tire of saying that with a little paint you can do real miracles when it comes to renovate and decorate spaces. Not only is it an economic resource, but you can also take advantage of the furniture and objects you already have, giving them a second chance.

Marisa wanted to reform the work space that she had in MagentaShop. The area had a skylight that provided wonderful natural light. However, the repair of some leaks and the lack of time to tidy it up had left it practically unusable.

wasted work space

Recently, Pinturas La Pajarita has launched a new range of DECO products. To publicize it, Handbox has launched a creative challenge to various bloggers in the community. For this reason, I have decided to try it to carry out this DIY project of renovate office area of Marisa.

materials for painting

  • Matt Pain from La Pajarita. This type of paint has a matte finish. They are also multi-surface, not being necessary to apply prior primer. It has intense colors that can be mixed with each other. I chose the shades Igloo, Sunlight, Indie Red and French Grey.
  • washi tape To prevent paint from seeping underneath, I recommend using Miarco’s washi tape (in this link you can learn more about the different types of masking tape).
  • Tools and accessories for painting: paper, protector, brushes, roller, etc. (in this link you will find more information).

Steps to renew with paint

For the transformation of this space I painted:

  • Walls
  • Desk
  • Storage boxes and shelves
  • decorative objects

I used only 4 colors though I mixed them up to obtain a multitude of shades, up to 30 different ones!

Paint the walls

The first thing I did was clear the area so I could work comfortably. I advise you to take advantage of this step to clean and eliminate everything that you think will not be useful to you.

Next, I protected the floor, window frames, doors, etc., with protective paper and painter’s tape. I then started to paint the entire wall with a special roller for rough walls.

The base color I chose was white in order to enhance all the luminosity of the space. On it I applied a varied palette of colors obtaining a very cheerful result.

geometric wall decoration

I love them geometric motifs, for that reason I decided that I was going to create a strip between the desk and the shelf with this type of decoration. For this I followed the following steps:

  1. I put washi tape on the wall. I didn’t follow a certain pattern, but I crossed some strips with others to obtain different geometric shapes (mostly triangles).
  2. I started mixing the colors Igloo, Indie Red, Sunlight and French Grey. I obtained 30 different shades with which I was painting each geometric shape.
  3. Before the paint dried, I removed the washi tape. This way you avoid dragging the paint along with the tape.

painting a melamine desk

For renew the melamine desk I chose the Igloo color. The first thing I did was roughen the surface with medium grit sandpaper, then I cleaned the dust and applied the paint directly with a roller.

La Pajarita Matt Paint is a multi-surface paint that does not require a primer. In this specific case, I needed to apply a couple of coats to obtain a uniform and fully covering finish.

Recycling boxes and decorating objects with paint

Paint will also help you transform wine boxes and cases into practical and decorative shelves.

I took advantage of several boxes of this type to decorate them with the same tones that I had used to paint the wall. In addition, I painted with them some decorative objects such as the letter «M» that can be seen in the following image.

The importance of small details

The small details are what make the difference and define the space as unique and personal. In this case, we wanted to give a “green touch” both with plants and with small pictures that represent them.

repaint a workspace

Just as it says in the sentence on the shelf (“do something amazing«), I tried to create a happy and colorful space using only four colors. The truth is that I am satisfied with the result, but the most important thing is that Marisa is super happy with her new workspace.
