Reviewing my DIY projects this year I have realized that there has been a great protagonist: decoupage. For this reason I wanted to make a selection of 12 ideas to decorate with decoupage that I hope will serve as inspiration for your DIY projects.
Decoupage is a technique that I love because it allows you to personalize, recycle and give objects and furniture a second chance. It requires some practice, but with a little consistency the results are spectacular.
Decorate wooden boxes with decoupage
I can’t help it, a wooden box that falls into my hands, a box that I have to recycle. Normally with a couple of coats of paint they usually improve, but if you decorate them with the decoupage technique the result can be spectacular.
In this link you will find the step by step to decorate this wooden box with rice paper.
Wine or Christmas gift boxes can be converted into practical accessory storage boxes. If you are looking for a personalized decoration, you can take advantage of wrapping paper and decorated napkins. In this link you will find the step by step to decorate a wine box.
Decoupage combines perfectly with paints with a matt effect such as chalk paint or milk paint. In this link you can see how this technique has been applied to two different types of paint.
Create your own pictures decorated with decoupage
With decoupage you can create your own personalized paintings in a few hours. Paper napkins are my favorite to make pictures with this technique. The main reason is because it is very thin and looks like a print when applied to wood.
In this link you will find the step by step to make a industrial style painting.
Although you can also do a romantic style painting just by changing the pattern of the napkin (tutorial here).
Furniture decorated with decoupage
The decoupage technique has been applied for centuries in furniture restoration and decoration. I particularly think that it gives them a different and original touch.
In this case I used different paper napkins to decorate the fronts of this mini chest of drawers (you can see the video tutorial in this this link).
If you want to obtain an eclectic result, you can combine a classic paper with a more modern decoration, as in this case. In this link you can see how I decorated the inside of the fruit boxes with wallpaper cutouts. For the exterior I used different shades of green to create a geometric decoration.
On many occasions it is a small detail that makes the difference. Can you tell me which of the drawers in this chest of drawers was decorated with decoupage? In this link you will find the solution.
Leftover wallpaper is ideal for decorating drawer fronts, tabletops, bookcase backs, etc. In this link you will find the step by step to make a custom side table to place on the sofa.
decorative objects
A centerpiece, a slide or a beach basket, practically any object can be decorated with decoupage as you will see below.
In this link you will find how to decorate both glass and wood with decoupage to personalize a centerpiece.
For this slide I combined two techniques: granite effect with spray paint and decoupage. In this link you can find the step by step.
With paper napkins you can give a beach basket a touch of exclusivity and originality (tutorial here).
what did you think of these 12 ideas to decorate with decoupage? Which is your favorite? I hope they have served as inspiration for your DIY projects for this coming year.
