We will see what it is and how it is installed
We will begin by seeing what the traditional peephole consists of. It is a small element that is embedded in the exterior doors, and whose function is to allow unidirectional visibility from inside the house. This small object incorporates a lens, which provides a viewing angle of around 120º, which can vary significantly from one model to another.
The digital peephole incorporates improvements over the traditional one, by taking advantage of new technologies.
The difference between the two is that the digital incorporates electronic components, such as the optics that capture the images, and the LCD screen where they are displayed, among others.
In addition to the features already provided by the previous peepholes, the improvements introduced in the digital ones allow a series of additional advantages, such as:
- Greater comfort. You no longer have to stand at the height of the peephole and glue your eye to it. With this new system, we have a perfect view of the outside from a certain distance, and at any angle and height with respect to it.
This is a great advantage in homes where people of different heights live together.
- Greater privacy. With the traditional peephole, the person outside can detect when they are being observed from inside. This is because when you turn the cover on the sight glass, the light comes out.
With the digital peephole, this does not happen.

Digital Peephole Components
The kit that makes up the electronic peephole consists of:
- First, of course, from the instructions.
- Of an LCD screen that is powered by two batteries, and that is activated by pressing a single button.
Depending on the model, its size may vary. In the peephole that we have used for this article, the screen is 3.2”.
- The threaded piece, which anchors the entire kit assembly to the door.
This model comes with three pieces of different sizes, serving for doors from 38 mm to 110 mm thick. Depending on the thickness of the door, the piece that best suits it should be used.
- It also comes with a small key to carry out the previous disassembly of the old peephole, as well as the assembly of the new one.
- And finally the peephole itself, which incorporates a small image band that is what transmits the image to the monitor.
How to install an electronic peephole
The first step to be carried out is to remove the existing peephole. To do this we will use the small tool that comes in the kit of the new peephole or simply a flat screwdriver.
Once loosened, we hold it on the outside, completely unscrew it from the inside, and extract it.
Then we introduce the new peephole, also passing the image band.
We place the anchoring plate of the screen, which incorporates adhesive tape, and thread the rear fixing of the peephole, choosing the appropriate size based on the thickness of the door.
And we squeeze well.
Have you seen how easy? Well, we’re almost done.
Now we insert the two batteries into the monitor, respecting the indicated polarity.
We connect the connector of the image band, to the back of the screen, with a simple click.
We place the screen in its final position.
And we put the fixing screw, which is housed in the lower part of the peephole assembly.
Clever!!
To put it into operation, you just have to press the only button on the device.
After a few seconds, it turns off automatically.
