Ecologically responsible lighting – BricoBlog

iluminacion ecologicamente responsable - destacada

Not only the industrial sector is progressively assuming its responsibility in caring for the environment. We, the citizens, must also do our part and, in fact, fortunately little by little we are achieving it.

In our daily lives, in our homes, we consume a large amount of energy.

East energy expenditure we can significantly reduce it by keeping in mind a few aspects such as: adequate insulation of doors and windows, use of construction materials that isolate from the outside, installation of solar panels when circumstances allow, adequate recycling of waste, use of efficiently responsible appliances and, last but not least, the use of ecologically responsible lighting.

These measures, in addition to providing us with economic savings, if we as individuals did it collectively, could greatly reduce our negative footprint on the environment.

In previous articles we have addressed practically all these topics. However, in the case of LED lighting, we analyze the advantages of using downlights but from the point of view of savings at an individual level. Therefore, today we want to make a new analysis from a more respectful point of view with the environment.

More efficient homes thanks to ecological lighting

Next, we will go on to see the main benefits of LED lighting on the environment, as well as the reasons for it.

longer shelf life

LED lighting has a longer useful life than traditional lighting, such as fluorescent, halogen, or incandescent lighting.

The duration of the LED lighting It is located in the range of between 15,000 and 50,000 hours, which, if we translate it into years, is between two and ten years, even up to fifteen years depending on more or less continuous use.

This, in addition to representing savings in our pocket, above all represents an important benefit for the environment, since we cannot forget that the costs and the amount of resources necessary for the manufacture, packaging and transport of new lighting elements are reduced. Which, in turn, means lower carbon emissions, which is the main cause of global warming.

More efficient operation

Traditional lighting uses too much electricity to generate light. Only 5% of the electrical energy is converted into light, while the remaining 95% is dissipated as heat.

However, LED lighting is literally the opposite. It only wastes 5% of the energy in heat, converting 95% into light.

Therefore, to illuminate the same, we will consume up to 70% less energy.

Reduction of energy consumption

LED lighting requires much less energy to give the same light as traditional lighting, which has a direct impact on production, transportation and energy consumption, all of which have a negative environmental impact. Especially the one generated by conventional energy sources, such as polluting emissions of COtwo and the generation of radioactive waste.

They do not contain toxic elements

Most of the traditional lighting elements contain toxic elements that are harmful to health, such as mercury.

At the end of the luminaire’s useful life, if recycling is not done properly, it could contribute to environmental pollution.

LED lights, unlike the latter, do not present this problem.

light focus

Traditional lighting emitted and emits, we hope for a short time, light in all directions, even towards the ceiling. This is an absurd waste of energy.

In this sense, many lighting elements with LED technology are much more efficient, since they direct the light in the desired direction. This is the case of downlight spotlights.

Alternatives for all tastes and pockets

The use of ecological lighting and efficient is not synonymous with austerity and bad taste.

In the market you can find many options in terms of designs, colors, power and even light tones. We can opt for warm lighting, other colder ones, or even colors.

Apparently it is possible that LED lighting seems somewhat more expensive than traditional lighting, but it will only take a moment to realize the opposite, if we compare the useful life of one and the other.

If you have come this far, it is because you are interested in environmental care. So we are going to dare to ask you a small favor:
