Trick to remove embedded lime

trick to remove embedded lime

Limescale is a problem that drives all of us who live in areas where water hardness is high. If this is your case, do not miss this trick to remove encrusted limescale from the faucet nozzle and that, over time, prevents the water from running smoothly.

It is considered that a water has a high level of hardness when it contains a higher concentration of minerals, mainly calcium and magnesium in the form of carbonates, which are the culprits of that whitish trace that we commonly know as lime. An easy and quick way to compare the hardness of the water in your city with that of other places is to look at the amount of soap, shampoo or detergent you need to make foam, the greater the amount, the harder the water will be.

Over time, the lime accumulates where the water passes, leaving unsightly white marks that take the shine off the tiles, glass and screens. Also, in the case of pipes and taps, where the water flows continuously, the layer of lime increases in size until it forms a kind of crust that can obstruct this type of conduit. A clear example is that of the tap nozzles, where the crust or rock that forms the lime sometimes prevents the water from flowing out.

Limescale on the faucet nozzle

There are natural remedies such as white vinegar that help remove limescale (you can see how to quickly clean the shower screen at this link), but there is a trick to remove the lime that has been embedded around the nozzle of the taps and that my brother who is a plumber taught me. The steps to be taken are the following:

1st.- Disassemble the faucet nozzlehelping you with a wrench if necessary.

2nd.- Separate the plastic parts of the nozzle and clean the limestone rocks that may have remained in the filter grid, for this we can help ourselves with a toothbrush that we do not use.

3º.- Next pour etching or salfumán (hydrochloric acid) in a container in sufficient quantity to cover the nozzle and introduce for a couple of minutes only metal parts this. It is very important that we do not insert the plastic washer since the salfuman would damage it.

4º.- Finally, all that remains is to carefully flush the salfumán down the toilet, rinse the metal parts and reassemble them so that the water flows normally again.

Finally, it must be taken into account that etching is a chemical product that must be handled with a series of precautions (never mix it with ammonia or bleach as it produces highly toxic vapors), so I only recommend it in cases in which the lime could not be removed with other methods.

did you know this trick to remove encrusted limescale around the tap nozzle? I recommend it if the water in your area has a high level of hardness and you have not managed to eliminate it with other methods.
