How to make a felt headdress without sewing

A felt or velvet headdress is the perfect accessory to wear at a winter wedding. If you also want your headdress to be unique and original, nothing better than making it yourself. Don’t you know how to sew? No problem, this DIY felt headdress It has been done without giving a single stitch.

In particular, I usually use this mounting adhesive in my DIY projects as it is very practical for gluing and fixing all kinds of materials. For example, in this link you can see a step by step to make a side table for the sofa.

On this occasion, the materials that I found inside the Handbox box for the new Ceys challenge had little to do with the use that I had given to this adhesive until now.

The truth is that as soon as I saw them I knew what I was going to do with them: a winter headdress.

Materials to make a felt headdress

To make a felt headdress you will need the following materials:

  • A diadem
  • Various pieces of felt
  • Ceys Montack Mounting Adhesive
  • Special adhesive for Ceys fabrics
  • Some wooden balls of different sizes
  • Imitation peacock feathers

How to make a winter headdress

I have to admit that despite having made quite a few crafts with felt (you can access my Felt Course from Scratch from this link it’s free!), I had never made a headdress.

The great advantage of headdresses over hats and pamelas is that it is a accessory that can be worn both at a wedding in the morning and in the afternoon. In addition, all you need is a short or midi dress in a solid color and some nice shoes to become one of the most elegant guests.

If you also want your headdress to be unique, do it yourself! The steps to follow are the ones you will see below.

How to make the base of the headdress

For the headdress base you will need a fairly thick felt. The one I used is 5mm thick.

First, cut the felt into an oval or teardrop shape using a template. Then cut off the excess part and join the felt to the headband with Montack de Ceys.

Finally, hold the felt to the base with the help of tweezers until the adhesive reaches its maximum hold (24 hours).

How to make a headdress bow

To decorate the base you can make a felt bow with three different shades of green. They are cut out so that the three superimposed colors are visible.

The next step is to stick them in the center with special Ceys adhesive for fabrics. This adhesive is used to join fabrics without becoming stiff. In addition, it is not necessary to apply heat, you just have to apply pressure so that the union is permanent.

A touch of wood and feathers

To finish decorating the headdress I wanted to add an element that is not very common in this type of accessories: wooden balls.

With the different colors of felt, small lilies are made and fixed with textile adhesive. Inside each one a little Montack adhesive is placed and a wooden ball is inserted. Finally the lilies are attached to the base of the headdress.

Once it has been fixed correctly (maximum adhesion is reached after 24 hours), the loop is adhered to the base, as well as some wooden balls to the sides using the mounting adhesive. On the back of the lilies will be fixed the imitation peacock feathers.

After all these steps, the headdress will be finished and ready to wear your best clothes.

no-sew felt headdress

This type of headdress with dark tones is ideal for blonde or light hair. If you are also a redhead, as is my case, green will especially favor you.
