not always what we want place the television on the wall we have the plugs and connections close enough so that they are hidden behind it. In our bedroom, if we wanted to put the television right in front of the bed, the cables had to run diagonally to the connections. Hiding the cables behind an L-shaped conduit seemed almost as unsightly to us as leaving the cables out in the open. Nor could any type of furniture be placed because the distance from the wall to the bed is 60 cm. After thinking and thinking, the idea of place a tongue-and-groove wooden panel to hide the television cables.

With this solution we not only solved the unsightly problem of exposed cables, but also added a touch of warmth to the bedroom. If you want to know how we did it, don’t miss the Step by Step.

To start we need the following materials:

Wood Ribbons squares with which we will make a frame. We use pine ones.

metal brackets to mount the frame, although they can also be made of wood.

Dovetailed wooden boards. Another option is to use pallets but I couldn’t find any so we bought some brushed fir slats for about €15.

keyhole saw to cut the slats and wooden boards.

Drill to screw the board to the wall, TV stand, etc.

Hammer to nail the tongue and groove wood boards to the frame.

Plugs, screws, nails

Once all the materials have been gathered, the first thing we have to do is frame on which we will mount the wooden boards. For it cut the strips to the desired size and join them with the metal brackets, placing one in each corner. Here you can see our frame of 140 cm wide by 200 cm high.

Once we have assembled the frame that will serve as a base, we will place the tongue-and-groove boards on it placing the frame on the ground and fixing them with nails. If we want we can glue the tongue and groove so that the union is stronger.

You have to leave a hole for the television support and be able to pass the cables behind. To do this we must cut the boards to size and place some support strips around the hole that we are going to leave. Next we will place the rest of the wooden boards until the frame is completed.

Once our wooden panel is assembled, we have to trim the frame a bit on the side where the cables will passas can be seen in the following image:

For top finish wood panel we can give it two or three coats of wax or varnish, or stain the wood, or give it a pickled appearance, etc., that depends on the taste of the consumer and the style of the room. In our case I gave it a few coats of clear wax because I liked the natural tone of the fir wood.

The next step will be put the wood panel on the wall. This part is the most complicated of the whole process since depending on the size of our panel, two people will be necessary. In our case, we used some stools to keep it at the desired height and, while I pressed the panel against the wall so it wouldn’t move, my partner screwed it to the wall.

Here you can see the final result once the television is placed on the support. Now only a short stretch of wires is visible to the plug. With this solution we have hidden tv wires that previously went diagonally to the plug and the antenna connection. Also with the wooden panel we have managed to give a touch of warmth to the bedroom and all this, without subtracting just centimeters from a passage area of only 60 cm.

What do you think of this solution? I believe that it is easily adaptable to other styles of decoration since, in the same way that we have made a wooden panel with tongue and groove boards, it can also be done with chipboard boards lined with wallpaper or with vinyl slats, or with melamine boards that we can decorate with decorative vinyl, etc… It’s all a matter of imagination.

Do you have a similar problem with cables? What solution have you found to hide them?
