The garden or terrace of a home adds a lot of value to it. Being able to personalize and adapt them according to our tastes and according to our needs, exactly the same as any other room in the house.
This customization goes from the main elements that are the “soul of the garden”, to the smallest details. Keep in mind that small details provide great aesthetic value and are precisely those that print our personality to a greater extent.
Well, in this article we will see how to make a small accessory for our garden or terrace, whose originality and simplicity make it the protagonist of the table.
Although, to keep the garden in perfect condition, making it a space in which to spend “all the time in the world”, we must dedicate some time to it and have the appropriate tools.
In Dejardin.top you can find everything you need. From tools and gardening supplies, to decoration elements, through outdoor furniture, lighting,…
I don’t know if the same will happen to many of you. When I’m on the beach on vacation and I’m walking along the shore, every time I see a shell, a conch shell, a stone polished by erosion or almost anything, I come up with countless ideas to transform them into.
Well, in this article I will show you how to make a simple but original and useful accessory that will help us combat the uncomfortable wind, and that will not go unnoticed by our guests.
Therefore, today we are going to use those shells that we have brought back from the beach as a souvenir, making some practical tablecloth holder with shells for outdoors.
If you have a garden or terrace, it will come in handy.
Video-tutorial
Below and, before entering fully, I leave you a video tutorial so you can see, step by step, how simple this project is.
Materials and tools needed
For this we will need the following tools and materials.
- shells.
- clips.
- Wire.
- Pliers.
- Sandpaper and block or, better yet, a grinder. With both, we are going to achieve the same result, but with the grinder it will be much faster and more comfortable.
- Workbench. To work comfortably and precisely, it is better to help us with a stable surface. You can find a folding workbench on the Best Tools blog, which perfectly fulfills this function.

Making our tablecloth holder with shells
First step
The first thing will be to select the clams that we will use for our tablecloth holder with shells marine. Choose the ones you like the most, but keep in mind that if you choose them too small, they will not fulfill their function, so take the larger ones.
Second step
Once selected, we will have to make a hole in the upper part.
Almost certainly, some of the shells you have will already have it done. This is due to erosion. Even better.
You will have to do the rest yourself.
This operation is impossible to perform with the drill. We have to do it by sanding the vertex. We simply have to take a block of wood and sandpaper, and sand.
In the video we have made one in this way, to show that it is not only possible, but that it is much easier than you might think.
If instead of using medium grit sandpaper, as I have done, you use coarse grit, the process will be much faster.
Third step
To the rest of the shells I will make the hole with the grinder. It is much faster and more comfortable. Of course, be careful not to overdo it.
The function of this hole is to pass the wire in the form of a ring.
Fourth step
Once all the shells have been drilled, we have to make the rings with the wire. Use a medium gauge wire. That can be molded comfortably but, at the same time, be resistant.
Make the appropriate ring to the size of the clip tape.
See how I do it in the video.
Once the ring is made, insert the two pins through the hole in the clam and open them as much as you can.
Fifth step
And now we just have to hook them to the clips. This is the element that we will anchor to the tablecloth, without causing any type of damage, making it possible for our tablecloth holder with shells properly perform their function.
Repeat this operation with all the shells.
Well, all that remains is to put several shells along the tablecloth to enjoy an evening in the garden or on the terrace, without having to worry about the breeze.
Soon we will be making more creations with seashells. I have to bore!
The next thing could be, for example, a pot lined with shells, or a frame, or something else.
I don’t know… I’ll think about it slowly.
However, if you have any other ideas that I can do, let me know by including a comment below.
