types of wallpaper

I remember the painted paper from my parents’ house, with those floral designs and toasted colors that yellowed over time, and also came off and stained easily. After several negative experiences, my parents decided to replace it with the gotelĂ© and I was left with the negative aspect of painted paper. However, I have to admit that the wallpaper that we can find today, has little or nothing to do with that of 30 years ago.

Today there are many designs and the qualities have improved considerably, in addition wallpaper can be adapted to the different rooms of our home depending on the material with which it has been made since there are resistant to humidity, with special textures, etc. For this reason, when choosing a wallpaper, we not only have to look at the design but also at the type of material with which it is made.

Paper

This type of wallpaper is the one that has traditionally been used in decoration. It is made up of a paper base and it is indicated for rooms of moderate use since they are not easy to wash. For its correct placement we must use glue for paper and it will be necessary to glue both the paper and the wall.

I used this type of paper to cover the back of a bookcase. For these cases it is good to use this type of wallpaper since it is one of the cheapest and in a back its use is moderate to low.

tissue paper

This type of wallpaper is adhered to a textile-based made of natural fibers (cotton, silk, etc.), which give the wall that fabric-like appearance. Floral designs are usually used that provide an attractive and elegant finish to the room.

To apply this type of wallpaper, it is necessary to use a special glue for woven paper. We must also bear in mind that once glued it is difficult to take off and correct imperfections. It’s also not very stain resistant.

Non-woven fabric or TNT

This type of paper is variant of woven paper to which an acrylic vinyl layer has been added that waterproofs the paper and makes it easy to wash. For this reason, this type of paper is suitable for areas of the house with a lot of traffic, since it also offers resistance to light and humidity.

It is also easier to install than tissue paper since you only have to glue the wall and we have time to rectify its placement (until the glue dries).

This is the type of paper that I have chosen to place soon in our bedroom since I needed a paper that was resistant to light and that, in addition, could be easily cleaned (my cats like to leave their tracks on the walls).

vinyl paper

It is composed of a paper base and a vinyl layer which makes it waterproof, making it perfect for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. It can be easily cleaned with a damp sponge and offers high lightfastness. To place it we need a methyl cellulose type glue and glue the wall.

Now that you know the main types of wallpaper that exist in the market, it will be easier for you when choosing the one that best suits your stay. We already know that when decorating we not only have to look for the beautiful, but also the practical.

Did you know these types of paper or was your selection solely for the design? How has the wallpaper given you? Would you put it back?
