From wooden box to side table

In this case, we have used a wooden case which measures 42x35x10.5 cm and can be purchased at Bodeshalom.org, which is a social foundation specializing in the marketing of craft and local products.

In addition, they wanted to provide a high contrast by combining two very different patterned fabrics that you will find at Trozosytelas.com:

  • Water-repellent canvas fabric tropical style for the top of the box
  • upholstery fabric geometric print for the bottom

There is no doubt that it is a risky bet, but it gives it a lot of character. In the following link you will find all the keys to combine fabrics with different prints and obtain a professional result.

Line a wooden box with fabric step by step

For cover a wooden box with cloth the steps detailed below have been followed:

  1. Remove the fittings to separate both parts of the box. In this case, the hinges and latch were embedded in the wood, so a spatula was used to pry them out.
  2. Cut the fabric with which you are going to line the box of a sufficient size so that it also covers the sides.
  3. Spray the box with spray adhesive. This type of adhesive allows us to rectify the position of the fabric. In addition, it does not wet it and it dries quickly. After placing the fabric, extend it from the center to the sides to eliminate possible air bubbles and avoid roughness.
  4. Finish off the corners leaving a small tab of fabric that will be folded inwards. It is important to apply enough adhesive so that the corners are well fixed.
  5. Line the sides and the inside of the box with a piece of fabric cut to the same size.

On the other hand, it must be taken into account that, if the fabric that has been used for upholstery frays easily, it is advisable to finish off the edges with a decorative adhesive tape. In this case, the tropical print fabric does not fray, but the geometric print fabric does. For this reason, a matching velvet adhesive tape has been used to finish off the internal edges.

  3. Place the two crosses in parallel and screw four 30×2.5×1 cm strips, two of them to the upper part and the other two to the lower part.
